Meet Thor, our March 2021 Pet of the Month. We initially met Thor in November of 2020. Shortly before we met him, Thor suddenly was unable to use his rear legs. After being referred to a specialist, an MRI was performed and revealed that Thor suffered from a Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE) aka spinal stroke. An FCE is an acute spinal cord injury in which a piece of fibrous cartilage suddenly obstructs the blood supply to an area of the spinal cord.
After his FCE, Thor needed quite a bit of assistance walking in his rear limbs. However, he recovered quite quickly. Thor’s typical rehabilitation visits include therapeutic exercises to develop his home exercises program, underwater treadmill, laser therapy, PEMF therapy, and acupuncture. Thor progress so quickly that we were able to stop using acupuncture and focus mostly on developing his homework exercises. Thor enjoys working on therapeutic exercises and walking on the underwater treadmill, so much so that he doesn’t want cookies for his job well done. Like most huskies, he enjoys working hard!
